Driving Safely as The Weather Gets Colder

Colder weather can wreak havok for drivers – there are lots more checks we need to do to ensure our cars are in the best condition for safer driving.

The main thing to check when the winter starts to draw in is the state of your tyres.  Tyres help to grip the road, and with the right condition you can easily drive in any weather.  It is vital you check that your treads are the correct dept – around 1.6mm minimum.  It is illegal to drive on bald tyres, so get yours checked and replaced once they begin to show wear.  It is also a good idea to replace any tyres which are showing signs of deterioration such as cracking along the sides.  These are more likely to get punctures which can leave you stranded by the edge of the road!

Another part of the car to check throughout the winter months is the levels of liquids in your car – the coolant, oil and fuel are all important to be at the right level for safer driving.
