Driving Safely in Wet Weather Conditions

Driving Safely in Wet Weather Conditions

As we all know, wet weather in the UK is common place, so it stands to reason that most of us will have to drive in wet weather frequently.  It is important to understand how to adapt your driving to suit the conditions in order to drive safely.

Plan your journey in advance of leaving.  If heavy rain is expected, avoid starting your journey until it clears a little.  If it is unavoidable, use main roads where you can to avoid getting flooded!

Roads are often more slippery in wet weather, so make sure you allow more time to react when approaching potential hazards – increase your stopping gap to at least 4 seconds from the moving traffic in front.

Keep your eyes on the road all the time, as water spray from vehicles in front of you can suddenly reduce your visibility.  It affects others too, so make sure you anticipate other people’s actions and be prepared!
