As a car or van driver, there are a few regular checks you should perform on your vehicle to ensure it is driving safely and well on the roads.  There are actually many legal implications if you are found to drive a car with some irregularities!

Tyres are one of the main areas to check on your car before you drive – there are several parts of the tyre you should check:

  • Tread depth
  • Wear and tear
  • Cracks/perishment
  • Dents and bulges

Tread Depth is important: This is what helps your car to grip the road effectively.  The law requires that your tyres have a tread depth of at least 1.6mm, but preferably more.

Wear and tear comes down to just checking the tyres to see that there is no damage, no areas likely to burst or any nails or debris stuck in the rubber.
